Chuck box enhancements
We performed a couple enhancements to the truck box. The first was to allow it to slide in and out of the trailer without tearing up the bottom or the sides of the box. Second was to reinforce the handles which were attached with, what I consider, tiny screws. The box gets pretty heavy when full and I didn't want to drop on my foot or someone else. For this we use 1/4 inch by three-quarter inch bolts and nuts on the inside.

Extra fuel solution
We mounted a 4 gallon Rotopax today.
There is plenty of room to fit another one on top so we have a couple 2 gallons on the way here now. If you are (very) terrible at math, that will be 8 plus the stock 20. If we average 10 miles per gallon we'll get 280 total miles. We do pull a trailer and usually average about 13-14 when we don't rush. Of course in four wheel drive and on dirt that average would become even worse, hence the 10mpg guesstimate.
Whatever the mileage that extra 8 gallons is a welcome addition.

Back in the game
The rig is back together so we took a trip up to Olympia to visit friends and new North Westerners.
We averaged 13mpg in the way up and 14mpg on the way back. The difference? Twenty two gallons of water and 75mph vs. dumping the water and setting cruise for 65mph for the return trip.
Time was about the same, stress was less and we saved almost 1/4 tank of gas.

Save the heater phase 1
Because of some current mobility issues we'll do the heater shield install in phases. Phase 1 involves drilling holes in our new trailer (exciting), installing Rivnuts with our new Rivnut tool (also exciting) and finally mounting the heat shield with fancy stainless hardware from the UK.
More detailed pictures to follow when we remove the heat shield for phase 3.

Save the heater!
When we want to go first look at these trailers they had one completely built out on its way to Hawaii. It also had the hot water heater but had a cool cage to protect it from things sliding around in the trailer. We were pretty certain that we wanted that for hours as well but it was a prototype so we had to make do for couple weeks until they produced the final version.
This is the last you'll see of our naked hot water heater it's about to be protected in style...

It all started here...
That is not entirely true considering we bought the Jeep four years ago and camped with it already. What's new are the tents, trailer and daughter.
